Our monitors and staff are the key to our success. Young people respond
positively to adults displaying wholesome values, enthusiastic attitudes and
strong ethics. We strive to recruit and maintain the best possible role models
for the campers in our care. Many of our staff return year after year. Many have
been campers at BHSC themselves and have returned to share the benefits they
gained through their own quality experiences. Our summer community is greatly enhanced by the loyalty and pride our staff display. And to reassure our parents,
intensive pre-camp orientation sets the stage for a safe, healthy and worthwhile
summer experience for all.

Where do our Staff come from?
Folks travel from around the country and from around the world to join BHSC. Every staff member is diverse in background and skills and brings a different flavour and
aspect to our team.
Our monitors fall into two categories:
Senior Monitors (BHS
teachers, university graduates):highly qualified with varied experience of working with children and strong leadership and value skills.
Junior Monitors (High School
graduates): young men and women who, before the start of the Summer Camp, attend workshops which are given by specialised
Summer Camp officers.How do we choose our staff?
Each potential staff member must complete an application form, provide 2 references and be interviewed by our Camp
Director. Each prospective monitor is thoroughly screened and we hire only those with maturity, patience, sincerity, a demonstrated interest in working with children, and an ability to see that each camper's welfare as an individual is paramount. BHSC absolutely prohibits the use of alcohol and illegal drugs.
Staff training is OBLIGATORY:
Staff training is given prior to the arrival of campers. Throughout this workshop, staff are trained and educated on the following: Health and Safety Awareness, Emergency Procedures, Behaviour Management, Activity Leadership, The Wellness Philosophy, Team Building and Age Specific Youth Challenges.
The BHS monitors create an environment bubbling with excitement and adventure, but one with built in safety, comfort and tolerance codes. Our goal is to ensure successful camping experiences for each camper. Teamwork is the key to that success! Year after year, our staff confirm that a summer at BHSC provides memories that will last a lifetime!
